-Aged at least 35 years.
This Violin has a European flamed maple back and ribs with a fully carved and graduated vertical grained Carpathian spruce top. The instrument has a hand-rubbed quality spirit varnish and American strings. It comes with Highly seasoned maple bridge and four Wittner tuners. A Brazilwood Bow is also included. All set-up work is done in the International Music Café Kolstein violin workshop. Outfit B includes a Lightweight Oblong Case, Thomastic Dominant Strings and either a Marco Briere Brazilwood or a Glasser Violin Bow.

"As a violin teacher always on the lookout for good instruments to recommend to my students, I purchased a Mathias Thoma Virtuoso (Model MT-100) last year just to try it out. I'd intended to evaluate it and then resell it as I already have several good instruments of my own.
After playing the Thoma I was impressed enough with it to keep it and use it myself as a practice instrument. Overall the Mathias Thoma is an exceptionally good student violin, especially at these prices. Naturally, it's no Guarneri, but then no one should expect it to be. But, compared to some of the violins that many schools use nowadays, the Thoma is on a different planet altogether. For the money I find it a highly satisfactory student instrument, especially if fitted out with a good set of strings. My Thoma has a very rich, deep tone (violinists often refer to it as a "French tone") that has improved with playing.
I enjoy it particularly for use with baroque music. I've played many instruments that sold for considerably more that were vastly inferior in tone quality to the MT-100. I unhesitatingly recommend the Mathias Thoma violins to both the beginner and even the advancing student who is cost conscious. Thanks again!
