FMI recommends the Original “Dampit” stringed instrument humidifier as standard equipment for all Upright Bass, Cello, Viola and Violin owners. It’s the best protection against cracking and warping. Why? Because it’s an “In the Instrument” system, inserted through the F-hole.
Household humidifiers and even ”In the Case” humidifiers are not reliable for a number of reasons. The number 1 reason is that they rely on moisture making it past the hard varnish finish (which protects from the outside), all the way into your instrument where the raw woods are, and where the moisture is really needed. (In extreme climates you may need 2 dampits.)
The “Dampit” comes with instructions, a paper humidity gauge, high quality soft rubber sleeve enclosing a special open cell sponge.
